For anyone who's never played, communication is central to this game. If you don't have a way to contact you, at least check your private messages on this forum.

btw Austria-Hungary sucks. Damn you Kranar!

I thought that Kranar was going to be telling people what we were going to do as far as communication.

Communication is done entirely on your own. You can discuss alliances and whatever you need to either in this thread or privately or AIM/MSN, that is entirely your own responsibility.

All you send to me is a U2U saying something like this for example:

SPRING OF 1901

Army Budapest moves to Rumania
Navy Triest moves to Adriatic Sea
Army Via moves to Budapest

That's all that is sent to me.

11-28-2004, 10:33 PM
Okay, let's put our AIM if we all want.

Also, remember that the list of rules and how the game works can be found at:

For the first couple of moves, I will be flexible if an error occurs in the orders and will correct any such errors, however, afterwards any errors either in format or in illegal moves will not be executed.

I will accept amendments to orders all the way up until the time they are due. I will also only consider the very last set of orders and ignore all previously made orders, so do not put half your orders in one U2U and then the other half in another U2U later, put them all in one U2U.

Alrighty, still awaiting orders from: Russia, Italy, Austria-Hungry, and Turkey. You have until midnight tonight to submit them, and I'd recommend submitting a set of orders early just incase there is an error.

The rest of you guys have written successful orders and they have been carried out. You still have until midnight tonight to change them of course, and I will be posting the new map of Europe shortly after.

imported_Kranar
11-30-2004, 11:51 PM
And the quest to conquer Europe begins… Russia, with the strongest army at 4 units, attempts to take hold of the Black Sea, but unbeknownst to them, Turkey shared the same plans and so both powers retreat back to their own territories.

The navy in St. Petersburg goes on voyage to the Gulf of Bothnia and all over Moscow residents are reading in the headlines 'French in bed with Italians, Europe erupts in war!' as the army there moves into the Ukraine.

After retreating from the Black Sea, Turkey sends its army from Constantinople to Bulgaria. This move gives Turkey an additional supply depot.

Austria-Hungry finds itself in a difficult position right at the centre of Europe. It manages to gain a supply depot in Serbia, but it also seems to have left itself open to invasion in the West.

France looks fairly safe from attack at this stage and is moving conservatively. The army in Marseilles is holding itself while it would appear that it’s moving its navy down for an easy take over Spain or Portugal.

England is making use of its navy, grabbing a supply depot for itself in London as well as taking control of the North Sea. It looks like it’s interested in Norway and Sweden, but it will need to take into account Germany with its navy eager to gain some more territory there as well.

Italy has moved all the way south to the Ionian Sea, it now needs to decide whether to move to the east and get in the way of the possible chaos amongst Austra-Hungary and Turkey, or head west and gain Africa but potentially leave itself isolated. To the north of Italy the defenses are holding strong with territory gained in Pie and an army right behind it for support.

I'm thinking it might be best to set it up so that you have 48 hours to make a turn from spring to fall, and then 24 hours to submit your build orders, and then another 24 hours to submit your next set of moves from fall to spring.

How can we tell what territories are under a certain power's rule but does not have armies in them?

Maybe some kind of white line running through the color of territories like that?

Also, when we get to produce more units, can we keep multiple armies in the same country like in Risk?

No, only one army/fleet is allowed on each location on the map. If a unit is dislodged, it is allowed to retreat. If a unit is disloged and has nowhere to retreat, it is destroyed.

No, the number of depots you're currently in command of at the end of the turn in which the build is, minus the number of units (armies and fleets) equals the number of builds you get. You may build ONLY in your home centers, and only fleets on the coast. Certain locations must also specifcy what coast if they have two.

At the same time, if you lose depots and have more units than you do depots, you have to choose which units to remove.

Light shade is fleet, normal shade is army, dark shade is no unit.

You have 48 hours to make your fall move, followed by 24 hours to send me your build orders, then 24 hours to make your spring move and the cycle repeats.

The game will go slowly just for this first game, if the game works out nicely and after we all get the hang of the game and the rules, then if we decide to play another game I'll do one move every 24 hours so long as everyone agrees.

Some people have expressed that they would not be able to make one move every 24 hours, being too busy or away, so 48 hours seems reasonable.

Orders for fall of 1901. The orders are given in an ideal format. You can find this format on the website I posted.

I will be accepting errors in format for the next 3 moves and afterwards any move not sent in the proper format will be ignored. Remember, you MUST state whether it's an army or navy/fleet you're moving, and the U2U subject title must be the date of the order being issued.

Some serious conflicts are due up north with Germany moving in on British territory. One of England’s voyages to Norway has ended successfully, but England has left itself wide open and Germany looks eager to take advantage of this opening. England’s army is expected to grow stronger and this certainly will help resist a future invasion, but if not planned carefully, the British may be in for a long war against the Germans.

France on the other hand is doing very well for itself, avoiding conflicts with the other superpowers while it silently colonizes the south-west. It gains Portugal and it’s only a matter of time before Spain comes under its control. One interesting thing to see is if France decides to ally with Germany to split up English territories, or whether it will ally itself with England to weaken a very ambitious Germany.

Italy secures Tunis with its navy, no challenge there and a much expected move since any movement to the east would have gotten it involved in an unnecessary conflict between Turkey and Austria-Hungary. We do see the army in Pie holding still with Venice moving back to Tuscany. What to make of this is anyone’s guess and one can only wait and see where it deploys its next military unit to see what direction Italy is heading in.

Russia meets right next to England after seizing Sweden, but the main event to report involves the first battle seen so far. After sending its army from Ukraina to Rumania with its navy there to support it, Austria-Hungry decided it too was in need of Rumania and sent over forces from Galicia with Serbia for support. Both powers found themselves retreating from battle and back to where they came from. Austria-Hungary decides it’s fleet is no good in Albania and sends it back to Trieste. Perhaps this is an effort to take an open Venice.

And last, there is Turkey to report on… It gains a supply depot in Greece, completely uncontested. Of course, the question is how long will it manage to keep this army deployed there and what is Turkey’s plan to get itself out of the south-east in general. Will it decide to work against Russia and attack Sevastopol? This could lead to an implicit alliance amongst Turkey and Austria-Hungary to push Russia back.

One thing’s for sure, it will take some very strategic military deployments by all super-powers to shape the future of their control over Europe. How this happens, we’ll know in 24 hours…

BREAKING NEWS!! WAR!!!

Last night, the Kaiser of the Greater Germany made a proclimation that England's actions will no longer be tolerated. He was heard stating that, "Great Britain has been acting against Germany and the German people on a consistent bases...this will no longer be tolerated". This was met with roaring cheers and applause. He continued to say that, "From this day onward, England is no longer a neutral country in the eyes of the German people. From this day on powerful German armies will move forward without fear and not stop until London has been occupied."

While not unexpected, the way that this declaration of war has gone about is rather amazing. Everyone thought that Germany would make a sneak attack or at least this was the rumor with back alley political commentators, but apparantly the Kaiser is very confident in his ability to win.

He has also stated that he will not be marching into war alone. Another European power has pledged aid in this war which only proved his point further that, "Britain is not a peaceful country, rather a belligerent and real threat to European security."

In related news, vast amounts of German civilians have been seen in recruitment offices waiting to sign up for the German army as the German Anthem played in the office. These bright young faces looked ready and willing to serve their country.

More information as it comes and may God grant victory to the freedom loving Germans against the murderous British.

It seems as though there were some misunderstandings on how to build. This being our first build order, that's understandable.

For one, only supply depots you have controlled after the fall move count towards building new units. If you managed to take over a supply depot during the spring move, and then are forced to retreat or simply are unable to keep that supply depot after the fall move is completed, then that supply depot no longer belongs to you.

Furthermore, you may only build units in provinces within your own home country that have supply depots, provided that you have control over those supply depots. If no such province exists, say because you already have a unit on that province, then you can not build.

You may only have as many units on the board as you have supply depots after the end of the fall move. So if you have 4 supply depots after fall and 5 units, you have to destroy one of them.

Basically, for the spring move you have flexibility to move around and take some risks. But come the fall move you really have to make sure to secure your supply depots carefully.

In the future, I will be posting a list of all build orders sent to me.

The next move is due tonight at 11:59 PM.

One other note...

It is perfectly fine to change you orders multiple times. Almost everyone is doing it and I don't mind one bit. Obviously when you make an order, you should be confident about it, but if you decide to change your mind because of a gut feeling, or something you or your ally managed to learn, then by all means send me another U2U or five if need be...

I will only ever consider the very last U2U you've sent me and only execute the orders in that U2U. So don't send me half of your orders in one U2U and then send me another U2U with an additional order you want me to carry out. Put every single order you want in one U2U and send it.

imported_Kranar

The mapping has been updated to simplify some things.

From now on, a dark shaded area represents a supply depot that you have control over. Only provinces that have supply depots will be darkly shaded if they are under the control of a player.

When building, only build in darkly shaded areas that sit within your own home borders. If you don't know all of the provinces that make up your own home border or another power's borders, then feel free to ask me.

In general, it is seen as a very intrusive move to enter another power's borders without their permission and without asking them, even if you don't intend to attack or just want passage way into another part of the map.

It hasn't happened yet, but it certainly looks like it will this next move along with what I can only anticipate will be some serious battles.

I wrote a commentary but darn Page Not Found error ruined it.

Basically... France and England are at it, Russia got screwed by Turkey, Italy can do some damage with Austria-Hungary against Turkey, Germany may be France's best friend right now, but that friendship could cost Germany down the road.

In other news, I am trying to find a new map to use that is much clearer and easier to use. Also, you'll find your "score" listed on the first post of this thread.

EXTRA EXTRA!! READ ALL ABOUT IT!

THE WAR BEGINS!!!!

War has begun in earnest in the west. Brave German forces march across the country side to aid the fighting of valiant French defenders. The attack by Britian was unseen and disgusting. Reports say that British forces razed villages and murdered women and children.

German soldiers were greeted with warm cheers as they waved to the Frenchmen that they were liberating. One officer was heard stating, "Mein Gott, we would never have expected such a warm reception! The French are so glad that we are here to liberate them! Our forces are strong and able! We will soon smash the British invaders! Heil Deuchland! Onward soldiers!"

German soldiers had bright looks on their faces. This is truly a war of liberation.

In other news, Russian forces have broken their alliance and cease-fire with the German people. Belligerent Russian forces have taken Silesia by burning towns, killing children, and raping women. A German soldat was heard exclaiming, "Let the slavs come! German soldiers will defend with ferocity never seen before! We'll throw the Russians back to Moscow!"

Build orders and retreat orders are due by 11:59 PM tonight.

Austria-Hungary is the only nation that needs to retreat this turn.

To find out how many armies you're entitled to, look at the supplies you have compared to how many armies you have, both are listed on the first post in this thread.

You may ONLY build on supply depots within your own borders. Thus while Germany has enough supplies to build 2 armies, it only has room to deploy 1.

Shouldn't people be disbanding units about now?

That will most definately be affecting my spring 03 move.

imported_Kranar

As far as the last move goes... France just got screwed over by Germany and loses Paris because of it.

But is this smart of Britain to be allying with Germany? Obviously Germany only cares about its own self interests and will do anything it takes to serve them. Unless Britain plans on being a good servant to the Germans, I don't expect this alliance to last long at all.

Turkey has done very well for itself the last move, but it's going to find some difficulties maintaining Greece, the most vulnerable nation under its control. The fleet it deployed in Smyrna comes too late as the Italians have already moved in to the sea down below. Turkey can try and pull an all out offensive against Romania, risking a bit in the process, or play defensively, but wasting a move to do so, gaining nothing and potentially even losing Greece.

I do forsee Italy and Britain becoming enemies real soon as they work to partition France. Italy is a huge threat to both Marseilles and Spain, and it's likely that France will have to abandon one of them by the end of Fall. As much as I hate to say it, it looks like France won't be a part of this war for much longer.

As it stands it looks like the alliances amongst nations is as follows:

Italy, Austria-Hungary
Russia, Turkey
Germany, England

Once France is gone, it's unlikely these alliances will be able to continue existing and we'll see another round of either major backstabbings or just mutual disbandments/neutrality agreements.

Also, Keller, if you can U2U me your build order as soon as possible I will implement it.

I call shenanigans. We planned our last move knowing she would support from pic and Germany cut that support to ensure she had to disband. I think that is unfair. Sorry, just my opinion.

Oh, I don't blame you for being ticked off and it certainly is my fault. Unfortunately this really is the only fair thing I can do for both you and France, and all the other players.

France is being allowed to keep the units it has for now, and after the fall move everything will be recalculated. This doesn't give France much of an advantage anyways and it's not going to survive much longer.

The map is unfolding in favour of of the German-British alliance. They have managed to pretty much annihilate France, who isn't likely to survive another year.

After France is defeated, Britain has Russia all to itself. The Soviets have recently declared that they will submit to any country who moves in and England is well on its path to covering that entire area.

Austria-Hungary and Turkey both stand still this round for reasons as of yet unknown, but each country can consider themselves lucky that the other country decided not to attack.

Italy manages to crush one of France's armies in Marseilles, gaining an additional supply depot. I am betting that Italy has plans to take out Turkey from Armenia and Syria with a strong navy and convoys.

I'm rather curious to find out who will get Spain. Both Italy and England have two armies available to move into the unoccupied territory, and France has a navy stationed in the Western Mediterranean that can continue deflecting both nations attempts to enter.

Yeah, it's down to Austria-Hungary and Italy vs. Germany and England.

Russia bailed and that leaves Turkey crushed and without an ally.

But boy do I expect a really long drawn out war between the two remaining alliances.

France and Russia have been annihilated this turn. This occured AFTER the end of this move, so during this turn, France's fleet in the Western Mediterranean was still part of the round and did infact push off Italy's fleet back to Tunis.

I must say, this game can go either way now. With Austria-Hungary able to pick apart at Turkey unopposed, and Italy having done an excellent job for itself over on the west, while the German-British alliance does hold a lead this turn, I don't think that lead will be as stable as one might expect it to.

But I do have to give credit to Germany for having a monster 10 unit army. Sure it's going to have to fight for every single supply depot from this point on, but it has the army to do so.

Looking at the alliances as a whole we have:

The British-German Alliance with 17 supplies.
The Austrian-Italian Alliance with 13 supplies.

But Austria and Italy still have Turkey to feed off of to tie it up for 17-17, and when that happens I must say I see their defences as being superior.

The British and the Germans will now have to work on putting just enough aggression to frustrate their opponent and start placing their armies strategically around Europe, get some fleets out on the map for easy and quick navigation.

At any rate, build orders will be due at 11:59 PM tonight.

!!!NEWS FROM THE FRONT!!!

Much has happened in the recent years and the brave German liberators have seen just about everything that Europe has to offer.

German soldiers marched column and column down the streets of Paris and were greeted by cheering and adoring citizens after they liberated the country's capital.

Kaiser Arkans was heard say, "I know we were allied with the French, but that was a horrible mistake we never knew the horrible slaughter they participated in...they killed thousands of civilians!"

It was said that German/French alliance was broken due to a grand betrayal by French forces, who turned their rifles against their peace loving German comrades, luckily, superior soldiering and tactics helped the Germans smash French forces and unite with their true friends, the English.

In the east, the war looked bright as always. Russian attacks were repulsed from Berlin and brave German soldiers stormed eastwards. Surging through Warsaw, Prussia, and Silesia, nothing could stop the brave and motived Germans. They were cheered by peasants and were seen giving out food after the broken Russian army lay in wake.

I had the rare intervew and chance to speak with a Russian peasant who said, "Ah! Thank Arkans for what he has done for us! That Sergey! He was mad! He would destroy all of Russia! Luckily I have no fear, for Arkans is here!!"

Now, a dark time has come. It looks as though Southern Europe has allied against the peace loving Germans and wishes to establish their tyranical rule over everyone. We have confidence that Germany will keep its sovereignty and continue fighting hard to keep as all safe. HEIL ARKANS!
