a mechanical heavy arbalest

A fine example of gnomish ingenuity and workmanship, this heavy arbalest displays curved mithril arms extending outward from the stock and is capped at the front with a mithril stirrup. Large oval cams of black steel are wrapped in the bowstring that stretches across a network of mithril gears set amid either arm and into the interior of the arbalest. Aligned atop the stock are a pair of crimson crystal lenses serving as sights, with a small trigger extending from the underside of the weapon.

Examining the arbalest you see that it is not cocked.

You see nothing unusual, except for a small enchanter's mark.

The creator has also provided the following information:
-------------------MECHANICAL CROSSBOWS-------------------------

You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the heavy arbalest for you.

Fully 6x (+30) enchant - holds 5 bolts - can be cocked in 2 seconds (provided you have at least one bolt already chambered) regardless of encumbrance or stats. Works amazing with celerity and quickstrike to give 1s cocking time and 1s firing time!

Selling for 8mil flat, or 8,000 bloodscrip (2,000 BS less than the equivalent weapon off the shelf)

Bumping for awesome crossbow action!

Another tid-bit, you can cock the crossbow without being pulled from stealth!

Did this get an enchant added to it? The matching description for this on the wiki is only 5x?

If it did get an enchant added, can it be further player enchantable or would one need to use PP?

Yup, it was enchanted by a player, and can be further enchanted (though with ranged going higher than 6x tends to have diminishing value).

Gotcha. Thanks for info. Hopefully someone buys this before I get too twitchy looking at it dangling for the taking...

Why would enchanting a crossboa make the price go lower???

It wouldn't make the price go lower. The extra enchants would have diminishing value because there is little to no point in using a 7x crossbow. Once you're at 6x, getting 4x bolts is simple (and 5x if you have a master fletcher), so the value of the extra enchant past 6x is practically nothing.

Basically, the enchant beyond 6x is just going to net you a small DS bump, though I'm not sure how the equation works. Man oh man if I still planned on playing my gnome ranger, I would snatch this up. With the right scripts, this would make xbows a little less irritating to use, especially for small races.

Completely amazing for smaller races, but still an improvement for larger ones too as I believe a normal heavy xbow has a min cocking RT of 3 seconds. I used it on a gnome warmage, and it was fantastic because you could disable, then blast bolts while kneeling (+30 AS) and destroy things.

And you can cock this in full defensive in between rounds.

Yeah, I used a standard mechanical crossbow on my gnome ranger for like...15 levels before I sold his stuff off. It's super effective, just more hassle than a bow. Picking up that bigger DF since you likely won't be using a longbow [on a smaller race] is quite worth it in some situations. Overall, I felt the standard mech crossbow wasn't worth it vs. the composite bow, but with a 5-shotter like this, I think the benefit v. hassle would be worth it, *especially* with builds like ranger archers that have lots of stam to spare for fast loads and shots.
