Do any of you or anyone you know play the oppsite sex in game as what you are in real life? And if so, do you do it just to get free stuff? or do you like the roleplay?
personally every time a girl is flriting in game I cant help but wonder, is that a dude on the other end? does that freak anyone else out or is it just me?

I play a boy when I want to be more or less left alone. All characters I've taken past title are female, though, so I guess I don't want to be left alone too often.
And, no, it doesn't freak me out. Jorddyn's sweetie is her sweetie, he is a he. Doesn't matter if his puppeteer is a she.

I tried playing a male character, I would curtsy instead of bow, so it was just a no go for me.

I heard PB plays Falgrin. That's pretty much what you're asking about right?

You just don't understand sexuality or you're insecure with your own sexuality. I'm a transgender not male but female that shows up as a male that dresses like a female.
We've already seen that stupid crap once heh it's not interesting it's something that gets old fast. Can't remember the character's name but the person had a complete flaw in his logic and was like a damn broken record in his arguments about the subject heh.

I'm pretty sure that character's name was Edine.

I don't personally do it.. I can, but i prefer to play female chars.. i know there are people that play the opposite sex.. I notice more males play females than females play males.

I see no problem with it.
We are supposed to be role playing aren't we?

I agree, for the roleplay its alright... but what if I mixed this thread with the cyber sex in GS thread. then what would you say?

The guys are in it for the lesbian cyber sex.

If you never speak to the person out of game then it shouldnt matter what sex the character's puppeteer is.. however if you do then you should tell the person if you are not the same sex that your char is.

I can't comment on the cyber sex, I've never tried it, doesn't really intrest me.
But....
If it's in game nookie, I still don't see the problem. Your char my char...lets get it on. What do I care who is behind the computer, my char isn't banging you, mychar is banging your char.
Again, never gotten into this aspect of the game.
I started playing my first male character a little over a year ago and didn't feel the need to disclose that I was a female in real life and because it's roleplaying afterall. I took over the character from my brother at a very early level and no one could tell the difference anyway.
To date he's received one offer to be a female characters "sugar daddy" which he turned her down. And the only girl he's "cybered" with if you even want to call it that would be my real life girlfriends' character which was like, one time. It doesn't have too much of an appeal with you can get the real thing at home.
The roleplaying is fun for me personally. When I'm playing my guy I don't have to deal with the gendertyping and all of that other stuff that goes along with how females are perceived to be in Gemstone. I enjoy playing my girls though but find I have alot more leeway when playing my guy.

All I was saying was that a male character that curtsied might be interesting. I didn't say anything about sexuality or transgender. I just think strange little personality quirks add to characters.

I have always played girls. I just saw no need to ever play a guy. As far as relationships go...I don't think I'd mind if one of my girls was dating a guy that was played by a female, so long as they told me about it. Anyone who I become friends with in the game I speak with in IMs and other OOC ways so I figure once it got to that in the relationship that they'd break the news to me.

I don't fret over what my character does in game with other characters. They're fantasy roleplaying characters whose actions should have no influence from things not related to the fantasy in which they dwell.

Heh don't worry none of that was in reference or actually directed at you. I was just reminded of some idiot that made a huge deal about it on these boards awhile back. I think his character started with a V... can't recall because I really didn't care that much.

You probably mean Vishra, Anticor.
And I see no problem playing the opposite sex in game. It's just RP, I have a couple female characters (none of which have cybered.. not my cup of tea).
edit: Yeah, Nieninque got it first. :P

I knew a guy who played a girl character AND had a relationship with a guy in the game.
I have a couple boy characters...the one I did use to interact with others just acted like he hated girls and he would flail and and shriek away from them if they paid attention to him. I hardly play him anymore.

Oh my gosh, I played a halfling wizard male, never got hit on so many times in my life. It was hard for me, since I always tend to giggle, or something girly. I'm just too much of a girl.

I've played both genders. I find that as a female character, I'm propositioned more but as a newb I got more free stuff and found people to be generally more willing to help. As a male character, I found that I got a lot more respect for my RP at much lower level.
I also found that as a male character, I can be an asshole and still have people thinking I'm hot - whereas when playing one of my girls, people are quicker to automatically assume that I'm either a man-hater or PMSing.
In case my user id doesn't tip someone off, I'm female.

Hah, I remember findout out Volder was female.. I was all, "OMG, wtf?"
And when I found out about Janisi and Rainbow, multiply that by 19u82909072.

You are good DEV. I'd never have guessed it when we used to hang at the Cul.

I've always played girls. Some feminine and reserved, some extraverted and sultry, some more tom boyish and anything in between. I considered playing a male on more than one occasion but never felt comfortable enough to turn thought into action.
I don't care about the gender of the player that plays the characters I interact with since I don't play GS to cyber but to roleplay. Males playing females are not too hard to spot. If a girl seems overly feminine in manners, I get suspicious. If Adhara was dating a male character played by a female I really wouldn't care.

Jihna was very nearly a male character. But I was taking a big leap with her personality, background and religion already so I decided I wasnt ready to throw a penis on top of it all. Jihn became Jihna. :)
I ended up making a male character recently because I'm big into roleplay challenges. He's uniquely fun to play. And yes, I have problems remembering to have him bow and not curtsy. If he curtsies one of these days I will have to giggle uncontrollably, as he is supposed to be a toughguy type.

I would love to create a gay male character, but I really don't think I could pull it off. The reason he would have to be gay would simply be because I don't think I can RP a serious, evil type character.
I would love to have the guts to try but it would have to be a character I simply use for not levelling and pure RP only.
Funnily enough I only created a halfling character because my first character, a dark elven rogue was getting far too much unwanted male attention, Eiderfleur gets far far more attention than my rogue ever did.

I'm pretty much a loner in game, so I don't think I need to create a male character to be left alone.

All my characters start off with a coin toss which determines sex. Currently, I have two male characters, and one is my paladin.
Is it easy for me to play opposite-sex characters? Its a tossup. I don't have difficulty shifting to anothers' point of view, which is generally how I role-play, so no, I would guess not.
My ranger (male) is closet-pseudo-evil. He's a really nice guy, but his ambitions are.. less than perfect. I don't have a problem with him getting hit on or anything.
As far as it being creepy to hit on another character, in character, when you know the player is of the opposite sex of the character.. thats up to you, really. Its Character to Character, not Player to Player. If you can seperate the player from the character, than I guess it doesn't matter, now would it?

Jesae always got hit on...I think its because of that annoying sorority-girl attitude I gave her. <vomits> I'm trying to remedy that now that she's back.
Nalina never gets hit on, and she's my hot, sultry, sex-kitten char. This makes me very sad. :(
My cleric hasn't been around enough to be bothered, though I'm sure she will be when people start realizing she follows Ivas.
Nobody would want to hit on my halfling empath. Hehe.

Not always true, unfortunatley...
My first character, a female, met Aleena (female, empath) and became really good friends. After about 2 years, they started seeing each other, and after a few months (7-8) she tells me in IM's that she's really a guy IRL.
Now, this would be totally fine if I hadn't had a strong online OOC relationship (friendly, not sexual) with him for most of this time. Problem here is, I told him things I would *never* tell another guy, and confided things in him because I thought he was a she.
I miss him though, in the end yeah it bothered me quite a bit, but I overcame it and then he left the game.

Yeah, its situations like that, that would have pissed me off. I'm a really up-front person and if someone had broken the news to me that late in I'd probably tell them I couldn't keep the relationship going due to the fact they felt the need to keep it from me.

Based on some of the names I've seen on new pally's, you'd proly get away with it. Gave me a good chuckle too. good one.

Might as well name her Humpydumpyallnight. Gets your message across and makes for a mention on the Bad Names list.
I guess I should add something ON topic. I have never played a girl nor am I interested in such. The thought of it repulses me. I have a hard enough time trying to add accents to my characters and make them more believable than to add the complexity of being a woman. For the guys that play women just for the goodies....you bastards. I want my things back.

Some very famous legends dating back to Kelfour's and just after the freeze, were males who played female characters who have since topped out, or are near maxed in level. I'm not too familiar with many famous males played by females, but know many very elder respected females in GS who have men behind them... and one wouldn't really know because they are so in character, they don't even talk OOC but to a few.
Regarding in-game cybering or whatnot... it's just a show for the GMs. You're better off cybering in a chatroom so you don't end up being shared among all the GMs and their friends. :D ESPECIALLY if you use the gag that casts silence, which alerts GMs to a mean spell being cast on a player, so they can peep. :moon:
I've never had a problem, as a female, playing a male character. My main female character I've had since day one is a warrior, she is not girlie at all. She bows, doesn't giggle (less her husband makes her privately), etc.
However, playing a male is a lot different than a female, as many have mentioned. My female is always propositioned. My male is always respected, and looked to as a sugar daddy. It's odd.
