So I think my laptop is on its last legs, been getting blue screens the last few days and critical failure messages and last night for 90 minutes I tried to do system restores and various bios fixes and still it blue screen after about 10 minutes each time.
I have in the past long ago completely wiped my laptop and essentially started from scratch again but it's been a long time and I forgot how. Anyone have insight on how to do this? I'm certain that if this doesn't fix it my laptop is probably just dying/too old to run and I may be MIA until I can afford a new laptop in September blech!

My experience with this is that if it can be done, it's usually somewhere within the System Restore menu, or around that location at least. You used to also be able to do it if you held down F8 while the computer was booting. It would give you an option for restoring to factory settings, but I haven't seen this option available on my own comps in awhile.
What I typically find to be the case these days is that you have to have created (or ordered?) Windows recovery discs to restore the computer to factory defaults. If you are still able to do this, then that might be an option. This again should be located somewhere near the System Restore option. But a lot of times if you're getting BSOD most people can't even get their comp to work correctly long enough to make the discs to then restore it to factory defaults. At that point, you take it to a professional and they can probably do it for you, or most times now you just say fuck it and get a new one. Can't afford one until September? We live in America...charge that shit yo!

post the model and manufacturers name of the laptop and I'll find you the button to press during startup for the built in system restore menu (if it exists) otherwise they usually ship out cd/dvds to do the restore process.

If there's a windows key sticker posted anywhere on it, you're likely still in the realm where you can download Windows 10 to create a boot drive if you have a USB > 4 gigs available. If you do, and it's a path you want to go down, look for a HDD Zeroing tool, and Zero your HDD, start from scratch, install windows 10, use the Windows 7/8 CD key that you have the sticker for, and go from there.

I reinstall my computers about every 6 months. I start with running a dban 0 fill on the drive, then install from whatever media. If you're wanting to install Windows, you can normally find the media online and I think Microsoft might even offer it now.

I was one "f" off, so I take credit for the fix. You're welcome. I get your shield for free now.
