View Full Version : Which Lance to Choose?

So I am looking for some thoughts on what I should do.

I have a decent weighted lance with a T1 ensorcell on it. I have enough PP to raise it to 6 but no further. But instead of that I am wondering if I should just forge a perfect and have my wizard enchant it to 7 and have it raised further with PP.

I guess the questions is, how much is weighting worth on a lance and especially weighed against a perfect lance?

perfect is long run more useful since you can bless it and/or weight it later

Normally I would say the bless is true except it is for my paladin so that is not really a consideration. I guess the difference right now is a DCW 6X preferable to a 9X perfect? So is 15 AS and a slight amount of AvD more advantageous to decent weighting?

But maybe a better question is, how hard is it to get weighting?

At the moment, this hard:

Fresh-slate Weighting Service (+10) 250,000 Weapons with no weighting.

Just a reminder that you decline guiding light flares if you bond to a weighted weapon. Weapons weighted, or have pre existing flares do not receive guiding light flares from a paladin bond, which typically makes the plain Jane perfects more appealing for the pallies of the world.

That would be perfect, if I had already forged and enchanted but alas, it is not done yet.

I might put mine up for sale

A 9x perfect lance is much better than a 6x DCW one. Especially as a Paladin since we get the +DF% increase spell. Lances hit hard enough and will stun/kill most the time anyways. IMO anyways.

Lances don't really need weighting, I would go with the 9x perfect any day.

The 9x perfect would be better than the 6x lance even with VHCW (+12 pts weighting) against most targets. This is primarily due to the lance's high damage factors. A 6x lance w/DCW is a bit inferior to an 8x perfect lance.

Comparison of 6x HCW (10 pts weighting) vs 9x perfect lance using average endrolls of 200 (100 success margin) for the 6x lance. The 9x perfect average endrolls are 118 (+15 enchant bonus + 3 AvD vs the 6x lance).

6x w/HCW

Raw damage:
73 (cloth), 53 (leather), 55 (scale), 48 (chain), 35 (plate)

Phantom damage:
83 (cloth), 63 (leather), 65 (scale), 58 (chain), 45 (plate)

9x perfect

Raw damage:
91 (cloth), 66 (leather), 69 (scale), 59 (chain), 44 (plate)

Phantom damage:
91 (cloth), 66 (leather), 69 (scale), 59 (chain), 44 (plate)

In all cases the 9x perfect lance inflicts more raw and phantom damage than the 6x w/HCW with the exception of plate armor where the 9x has 1 less phantom damage.

Note: Phantom damage is used for maximum critical rank determination. 9x lance raw and phantom damages have the same values since there is no weighting. Also, the benefits of weighting (which remain constant) on the lower enchant weapon diminish with increasing endrolls due to the perfect weapon's DF advantage.

Thanks very much everyone for the insights, I am only a little bit of a numbers guy but that cleared it all up, time to head to the forge.
