You hear a terrible keening cry in your mind, though its originator's anguish is fleeting, as the shrieking is abruptly cut off. The awkward utterance is soon replaced by the inkling of a serene shift in the power of nature, a welcome presence in comparison. The knowledge of harnessing the power of the potential pure chaos of your surroundings touches your thoughts as parity is restored.

Post logs:

My first shot of it:
You gesture while summoning the spirits of nature to aid you with the Nature's Fury spell...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a snow crone.
You close your eyes in a moment of intense concentration, channeling the pure natural power of your surroundings. As you continue to gather the energy, a low thrumming resounds through the area. Suddenly, craggy columns of rock crack and jut up from the ground, savagely assailing everything around you!
The surroundings advance upon a snow crone with relentless fury!

Huge, snowy masses of rock rise up from the surface, grinding roughly into snow crone!
... 16 points of damage!

As swiftly as the chaos came to be, it recedes again into the surroundings.

You gesture.
You close your eyes in a moment of intense concentration, channeling the pure natural power of your surroundings. As you continue to gather the energy, a low thrumming resounds through the area. Suddenly, a multitude of sharp pieces of debris splinter off from underfoot, savagely assailing everything around you!

Passing dwarven citizens quickly glance about their surroundings in confused bewilderment as they turn to witness the cause of the ruckus. They begin to flee hurriedly from the area as the walls begin to shake! Above the din of an unseen crashing, you can make out panicked cries for help as people drag off their injured.

The warding check still makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, though.

Man, what I wouldn't give for mass spikethorn now. Wizards get mass 910 for 18 mana, 35 mana for a similar semi type spell doesn't seem that excessive. I, for one, have been unimpressed so far.

I'm not too impressed with the spell right now, myself. At least for the like level creatures that my ranger hunts its pretty ineffective, though that is more of a symptom of their creature types. But it doesn't really do enough for the cost and the philosophy behind the general idea. I don't want instant death, but I want something that at least for a minute incapacitates those I'm hunting.

big difference between calming the creatures and stopping them... i was pretty impressed with 635 for the most part.

Which part of it? The non-stunning, low damage part, or the player unfriendly part? Or the high mana cost of a closed profession list spell that is nearly worthless?

Artha
11-21-2004, 05:54 PM
Without having any real authority (never having gotten a ranger past 9), it looks like either the crits should be better, more damage should be done, or the mana cost should be based on the number of critters in the room with a cap of 35.

Lyonis
11-21-2004, 07:42 PM
I like the fact that the spell is unfriendly and pulls hiders and people in invis out. Gives rangers an ewave like tool. The spell does stun Drew, look at the log I posted about Grandsome or at Stunseed's log. It seems to be working good for me so far but I haven't tested it a lot since my hunting area can get fairly crowded. I'm curious has to how many ranger ranks you have Drew.

One thing is that this spell should not be judged at all for the manner it operates against other PCs. Thats not why it exists.

For 35 mana, I think I'd appreciate a spell that incurred made using it a benefit, other than just doing some damage. Crit deaths do not appear to be the norm (nor do I want crit deaths), nor do the stuns against creatures seem to be of any useful length. For 19 mana, I can calm most creatures and pick them off, one by one. For 35 mana, I can reduce the HPs of a creature by at most 1/4th , and be left in practically the same shape otherwise.

The most successful casts that I've seen have come from near capped or capped Rangers. Which is a group / level that most rangers won't achieve.
