Paladin is one of the few classes I've never played before so I can't be of too much help.

There are two schools of thought when it comes to stats though; plan for max training points/good stats around level 50ish, or aim for perfect stats when you reach 100. Personally I go for perfect stats when my characters reach 100 because the general consensus among everyone is perfect stats is worth losing some training points at cap and this way you save yourself some silvers by not having to buy a fixstats potion.

Some people don't like their core stats being low for so long though so they opt for the former option.

Your best bet is to use the TP stats that SIMU gives you until your 30th day, because really you're not going to be doing much other than swinging. Work on the stats while you're scripting, to find the best mix that works for your playstyle, whether it be Lvl 50 or Cap growth, and check sometime before your 30 days expires. grind bounties hard through Lumnis cycles, use mind clearers as you get them off lumnis. Level 5 is too soon for a new player to stress over the stat question. If you've been level 5 for a week, I'd suggest starting over, you should be able to get level 7 in a day if you apply yourself.

Find yourself a nice Iasha THW.

CMANS

W Spec
BONDING
Cunning Defense - for each rank you have subtract 3 from rolls made against you, I belive it also effectively gives you 1 Phantom Rank of each CMAN for defensive purposes
Combat Focus - This will give you TD allowing you to forgo Spirutual Spell Circle until after you're fully bonded or made it to Field Raise Ranks if that's your goal

I enjoy my Paladin and started as mentioned above. Start out with stats that will help you swing good in the beginning, like STR and such and level as quickly as possible. Then, when you hit around the 29th day, get ready to switch them so that the stats max out at CAP (level 100). Post back here when you're close and people will be glad to help you get the right ones. Beg for spells, some people are happy to give them out for free. Tgo loves to give free spells!! So hang out in Ice Mule and have some fun. Personally, I like a good sword and board but most like the quick killing THW claids. I just saw one sitting in the pawn shop that you could snag for cheap. Or let me know and I"ll grab it for you until you figure out what you want YOUR Paladin to be.

Don't worry about bonding. It doesn't take all that long to bond, and you'll probably bond-unbond-rebond-rinse-repeat a few times over in your career. It goes faster than you think, especially if you just forget about it and swing away at things, cause that's about all you'll do until you reach 100 - and then keep going from there.

You can choose shield skills as you like. If you sword and board, a few of us (myself) like a good tower shield. So you can focus on that if you want, then go for other ones. I like spiked shield focus followed by spike mastery cause then stuff just automatically hits my tower spikes and hurts themselves.

You can also get a fixstat coming up shortly and they give out others once a year at the same time. Also can do simustore to buy one or people sell them for a bit of silver. The only tough one is the Stat placement when you get to 30. All the other stuff you can change around a bit easier.

As a Giantman Paladin you can afford to take some points out of Strength and put them into Dexterity and Agility. Ideally you want their combined bonus to be at last +23, which would reduce the roundtime on every swing by 2 seconds. That would also let you use two-handed weapons (like mauls and claidhmores) since most of them have a base roundtime of 7-8 seconds and you don't want to be stuck in offensive stance for that long. At low levels two-handers are much more fun, give them a try at least.

I would recommend Feint as your first cman, at least up to 4 ranks (which will take 24 points) before anything else. There are many creatures that turtle up, especially spellcasters, and it helps immensely to feint down their defense. There are other setup abilities like Divine Strike and Shield Bash (if you learn it) but at low levels you'll be constrained by mana and stamina, while Feint is very cheap to use.

If you are set on using shields then start out with Shield Bash and Tower Shield Focus, it's hard to go wrong with those and they're needed to unlock more maneuvers anyway.

I do not know a thing about paladins, except how awesome they are. So glad to have you onboard this amazing journey!

Those you can change anytime. They take a little time to unlearn unless you get a potion or fixskill.

But neither are permanent

Paladin's are a nifty class too. Durable, hit hard, a neat RP and magical component to their abilities, especially into the 20s and 30s when you have power spikes.
