So, any secular humanists here? I've been looking into it recently and got curious if anyone here identifies with that philosophy.

If you're going 'huh?' and are curious, there's a checklist of the principles (http://www.secularhumanism.org/intro/affirmations.html) here.

Ugh. I had a whole 6 weeks on this theory. Its exhausting to think that an idea with such a mundane beginning could impact our society so much.

*because there is an 'e' in society

I've read about this before, Raven. While thier beliefs closely correlate to mine, I've never been a joiner, per se, so I've never really pursued further information. However, I do admire their views. :)

I identify with a lot of the principals, but having experienced God for myself I believe in God.

I'm not a huge one for religion, though. I have a feeling that God is probably a bit taken aback at all the atrocities committed in his name.

So no, I guess I don't qualify as a secular humanist, though I find their movement much more comforting than the pecular brand of Christianity that our current administration embraces. I guess I'm saying No I'm not a secular humanist but I sure wish all governments were.

We believe ... that democracy is the best guarantee of protecting human rights from ... repressive majorities. Am I the only one confused by that? Besides that one and this one
We respect the right to privacy. they might as well put the word Christian in their title, so I'm for it. :)

be careful to embrace anything that doesn't come straight from the bible, many new teachings and philosphies will come up near the end times. they will look great and promises, but are just lies, further away from the truth than anything before it.

For some reason the warning sirens are going off in my head, hopefully it's a false alarm.

With this statement you have to choose between the Torah/Talmud and your New Testament. The two are highly contradictory, the Torah does not provide for the afterlife described in your NT, nor does it provide for a "Son of God" or "Mortal incarnation of God."

When you make statements like this, make sure it's a statement you understand and not something you parrot without actually reading about your beliefs.

Must mean its time had come.

Neither am I. It's more that I've discovered that my beliefs have been arrived at by others and given this name. I wouldn't say I agree with everything listed there one hundred percent but it's pretty damn close; and closer than anything else I've seen.

Doesn't the rejection of any supernatural concepts - including that of any deity - until proven pretty much disqualify them from any Christian label?

Only if you put deities in the supernatural category and/or don't believe any of the proofs of God's existence. :)
