View Full Version : Gearinfo - What happened to it on the repo?

I recommended ;gearinfo to someone the other day, and found out it's gone from the repo!

Gearinfo lets you make a note about something in your right hand:

;gearinfo add Unlocked once on 15 March 2016 +20 sword of doom in training

... and recall it 6 months later when you forget what it is, what you had done to it by holding it in your right hand again:

;gearinfo info

... and what you wrote about it spills out on your screen.

I love this tool - is it gone for a reason?

Is there something else like it? Or better?

Sounds like a pretty nifty script and would be easy enough to replicate.

Of course the only problem is if you have two items with the exact same name (like a "blue vultite broadsword") then the script wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

Allereli: Labels ... cost SO much. :(

And Tgo01: I thought of just making a new one, too - but er ... yeah, after April, maybe.

Two of the same things confuse ME! I work very hard at having only one blue vultite broadsword... :)

I opened up gearinfo ... it was written by Geldan

... I don't know him/her, though. Are they still around somewhere?!

Not only labels, but ANALYZE has been updated and continues to be updated to allow you to see where your item is at in terms of unlockings and if you have certain things customized about it. Seems ;gearinfo would be redundant considering what is being done to make it easier for us to track things otherwise.

I think she means for tracking things like weighting and padding and stuff. Like you could make a note that it's a +27 HCW broadsword.

I like the convenience of Lich, but prefer not to depend on it for anything. So for something important like, "what does my shit do?" I invest in labels.

This. It's a small investment and if the item gets sold, the buyer gets the information on it from the label as well.

And she isn't either of you. She likes this script and wants info on it, let her be her and you be you.

I don't think we're trying to make her us. We're just trying to offer a better explanation to an alternative she's dismissing.

I'd use this script if it were to make its way to the repo again.

I've got a copy of it I'll throw into the repo.

EDIT: Uploaded

Huh neat. I didn't realize labels could do all this.

But the advantages to having your information in a script is pretty limitless. It can keep track of all of your items in a text file. Sortable, allows more information to be tracked. Don't have to worry about OOC info. I don't know if gearinfo does this though....

I like the idea of having a list of gear though, just in case you forget where you put it and can't find the item to read the label.

The only reason I'm hesitant to endorse using any script to track this is because I can't count the amount of times people have lost their go2 settings, aliases, etc.

Yeah that would be really awful. I think anyone that does a script like this would really need to store in an external text file or XML. Otherwise kind of defeating one of the biggest benefits.

I use and Access database with a supplemental Excel file for additional details for my locker inventory. /shrug

Just imagine if you could pass all that through a script instead of writing a label and then opening an excel for additional info. Basically double the work.

;gearinfo is the best. the search feature is super helpful, and who can remember what all those enhancives are.

Thanks for uploading it! I love to recommend it to people. Maybe there's a RSN [REPO gem] for it :)

Now if only ;gearinfo held it's info in a file instead of ... wherever dark place it hides it, I'd really be happy, and I'd totally back that file up every week.

I was ready to use labels ... until I saw their cost. Maybe in a few years that will not matter, but it does now. There are some things Analyze just does not show about some of my gear.

I completely think there's room for both items. It'd be GLORIOUS to have one command do it all for me, too!

I literally consider gearinfo Luxie's magic little labels on things. :)
