I'll take another crack at it but without poking around your computer its hard without seeing how other things are set.

Go into Default programs - (Sometimes on the start menu, other wise control panel - default programs) and select the second option - Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
You can quickly jump to where we need to go by typing .sal or just scroll down and find .sal and tell me exactly what program it is associated with.

Also, I think you answered this but maybe not, are you able to launcher the storm front client correctly from the website without lich ?
Also when you uninstalled and reinstalled did you again, against our recommendations, install the storm front client to a custom folder C:\gemstone\launcher, or did you let it automatically try to install to C:\program files... ?

also did you make any changes to your UAC settings before doing this ? Are you getting any UAC popups asking you to allow changes etc ?

It's saying wordpad is assigned to .sal

Yes I can can launch the client from the website without lich.... yes it's installed to a custom folder.

The wierd thing is if I run the .sal file created in the temp folder, everything runs fine... just the lich launcher is not working properly.

Ok that might be part of the problem, .sal is associated with ruby on my system.
highlight the .sal entry and click change program in the top right.
Choose the option to browse for a program and find the ruby.exe , on my system it was C:\ruby200\bin\ruby.exe
Try again and tell me if anything changes.
If you need more instructions or clearer let me know and I'll give you a better step by step.

I set it up like you instructed, but it still doesn't work.

make a backup of the temp folder and then delete everything in it and try again. After that I've got nothing sorry. Something wasn't done right some where along the install or you have something else that is causing the problem.
