Poleaxe/rebalance/trip flares. This is based on MoC, but doesn't require it, it just makes it more powerful. For example, at 50 ranks MoC, you have about a 50% chance when a rebalance flare goes off, of a follow-up knockdown trip.

There are two banditbane spots on this item. The first is from EG 2012. The second is from RTCF Round 3. The first spot was DCW, the second was VHCW, giving it a total of +20 vs bandits and +32 (phenomenal weighting) with the regular weapon weighting factored in. (double checked with a GM, they confirmed it)

Well.. it's IW for one... if he can pick something to use or add that isn't anywhere near worth it, he will.

Second.. he may have not had many choices at the time really. Just depends what was offered/left when he won the spot, and once he added the first one.. he would have lost it if he switched, or could have switched at RtCF.

At RtCF, and previously, they've had it in their heads that strung weapons were OP, and even though it wasn't a listed restriction at that event, I was denied in my attempt to put undead bane on it. Nothing else to the story other than that subjectivity is well, subjective, and what's OP is a fairly fluid question in Gemstone.

let me dig deeper when i get home.. these are known to some as trip flares, rebalance, or poleaxe. i've googled some posts and see some contradictory info.

The "hit with the butt if the weapon" flare always happens regardless of MoC I believe. The Trip flare (which happens after the butt of the weapon attack) flares with MoC.

Rebalance Flare. These are similar to normal flares, the tables that they use are based on the type of damage done in the main attack (I believe). So, if you hit with crush, it'll flare crush. If you hit pierce, it'll flare pierce. Locations hit are random, in this attack, the main swing hit the leg, and flare to the chest.

The "rebalancing flares" crit on the crush table causing some nice damage. At 50 ranks of MOC a chance activates for a sweep/knockdown on the flare. It's about 33% at 50 ranks, 66% at 100 ranks. Check around on these boards for examples of the flares or shoot us an email.

Extra data point: I had poleaxe flares for a little while. With 0 ranks of MOC, I never saw the follow-up knockdown flare once.

Yeah they're really fun.

The banditbane flares allow you to stance down to advanced or forward and still connect on shots for tons of crit potential even though the end roll is very low. Obviously on a 200+ end roll the weighting won't matter quite as much.

I don't think the MOC makes a huge difference. Just gives you a chance to knock stuff down after the regular flare goes off, but since you're hitting it with a (weighted) lance, you probably already knocked it down.

Mechanically, it won't matter very much, but I'm sure the MOC flares are fun.

Pretty neat to have something with both weighting and (scripted) flares, regardless.

Same here. However, If they ever did swap, it would probably be creaturebane for another creaturebane. In which case you'd probably go for extraplanar bane, or maybe magic bane. That covers a bunch of different creatures. Expb covers the most capped creatures.
