According to the people raising the funds, the Green party has been successful and the Ohio recount will commence ASAP.
This was apparently a joint venture between the Green and Libertarian parties.
They were able to raise over 100 grand in under 4 days.

I'm happy about this for one reason:
I hope that Ken Blackwell (Sec of State) gets lots of negative press, or that he tries to do obstructionary type things and the media reports it - causing himl either be removed (not likely) or seriously damaging his chance of being elected as our Governor in 2006.

I will be glad once the recount is over and all the cries of "He stole another election!!" can once again be disproven.
Well, to most people anyway. We will always have the freaks ala 2000 election recount.
I am not supporting the theory, BUT, do you think that stealing an election is impossible or that the Republicans, or Democrats, wouldn’t if they thought they could get away with it?

I don't think it's possible only because it would take far too many people to pull it off. I think if it was possible, many politicians would try.
Rumors from the District
I overheard some guy in the lobby of my building talking on his cell with someone saying that there are reports of double ballot counts in Ohio.
District sighting of the week
Senator John McCain walked into the building I work in yesterday.

No, Ohio was the deciding factor.
Kerry 252
Bush 266
Ohio +20
So it would have put either of them over 270.

Agreed.
We should also recount Florida from 2000.
Just to be consistant.

I'd like to see a recount that no one can argue with, that'd be nice. Do you think for the next election, we could get everyone in a giant stadium and say, "ok, raise your hand for x, alright, that's 26,400,824 votes, now, raise your hand for y .... no voting twice... okay, that's 45,109,100 votes, y is the winner."

If Kerry were to win the recount it would be good in the sense that the truely appointed offical would take office, but disasterious in the sense that our entire nation would lose an immense amount of confidence in our electoral system.

Unfortunately, the powers in the 2 parties want to keep it JUST the way it is, because it helps them both.

The Reds will probably initiate recounts in the closer blue states (Wisconsin/Mich/NH). Barring any changes, a legal battle will ensue and will work its way up to the High Court. The Court, controlled by the Republicans, will promptly ignore the lack of legal precedent, make up a new rule, and then hand the presidency back to the reds, a la 2000. Same result.

Umm, nothing would happen if Kerry miraculously found the necessary votes in Ohio. He conceded. Bush would still be you incumbent "president elect" and Kerry would still be gearing up to campaign for his senate seat in 2006. Of course, there would be legal wrangling and accusations and such, but look at which parties have instigated the recount. I know everyone loves a good conspiracy theory but this is simply a test, as it were, by the less powerful parties.
As for either party cheating if they thought they could get away with it, well, of course they would. Look at Nixon and Watergate? Nixon had that election wrapped up and had no need to cheat, but in his paranoia, took the chance. Of course, it cost the Republican party big time in 1976, but thems the breaks.

I'm not so sure about that. You're saying that even if the count showed that Kerry won Ohio (which is highly unlikely), their memebers in the Electoral College would vote for Bush?
Additionally, if that was the case, they wouldn't even bother with a recount, would they?

High court? and which "high court" do the Republicans control, the Supreme Court of USA?, certainly not, or Roe vs Wade would have been over turned.

What can you possibly say that would make me cry? That your minivan can go faster than mine? That your above ground pool is bigger than mine? That the couch on your front lawn has less bugs in it than mine? Gimme a break.
I think it's a pretty good retort myself. It encompasses not only the economic, but the social, geographical, and the political facets of your existence. It's so subtly demeaning that the true magic of the quote is that someone in your "position" may not even take it as an insult.
Oh - Alarke:
It wasn't high school constitution(sic). It was "constitutional" law at one of this nations greatest law schools. And when your prof was an amicus brief writer in Bush v. Gore, I tend to take his views seriosuly.

Incorrect.
Conceding the election is no more than rolling up the tents and going home. The game hasn't been called yet since the electoral votes are still in question.
If Kerry is found the winner of OH, then Kerry wins the election. It's as simple as that until the legal battles start.

Please show me how the refs fucked up last night. Let's not include election reform because many of us want that. But I have seen no evidence that the election was fucked up for one team or the other in 2004.
It wasn't a landslide, but for an election that was supposed to be razor close.. it simply wasn't.
