looking for some black alloy items, preferably not too terribly expensive, for alter fodder.

What's your idea of inexpensive? There are quite a few 6x black alloy shields and weapons

there was a black alloy shield for sale on PC not long ago for a mil or two, which seemed decent. Someone pointed out to me via PM that there are some old black alloy grandmaster lockpicks out there that might be pretty cheap. I'm tempted to buy the hauberk, but I don't want to waste something nice and useful like that for alter fodder. That would be a damned shame. Then again, if I could get an armor change making it augmented, I'd probably turn it into a project piece instead.

the hauberk? I do, now. Going to set it aside for a chance to get an AvD change, possibly, and/or add it as a major enchanting project.
