I was pretty excited for this when it was announced, but after playing it for a bit, it's just... boring. Ultra-bland cover shooter mechanics, bullet sponge uninspired enemies, bland loot... The world looks nice but is amazingly empty. I wonder how this is going to do on release.

I have been playing it off and on, I play on my PC.

It's not bad.. it is soloable through the reg missions (which is good for me) but it gets better in a group. They are adding "raid" type missions in April, along with trading (free). The mechanics of the game are really more like a mass effect then destiny. No matter how much "armor" or "health" you have, it seems like same level enemies kick the shit out of you the moment you leave cover. Which i guess is more realistic.. who the fuck runs around IRL just blasting away at people while they are shooting back.

I'm done with all side content and am now doing the main storyline missions at level 30. I've found that it's very easy to be undergeared in this game. You'll spend an ungodly amount of time trying to kill a boss mob before picking up a few new pieces of gear and dropping them in 2-3 clips, if that.

I've definitely gotten my money's worth, but I doubt i'll play raids or get big into the Dark Zone.

Arguably... they did it well before it's time with FFXI. The problem is that the computer out-paced the consoles so completely and utterly, that Square Enix was forced to cater to the least common denominator.

I've liked using Light Machine Gun and Sniper Rifle.

I didn't like Assault rifles, too much inaccuracy to justify the extra damage. Never messed with Sub machine guns. I like Shotguns, but unless you're properly geared and leveled, you'll get yourself killed being in CQC rather than if you hung back and did damage at range. I typically use normal pistol handguns. I liked the sawed off, but like being able to mod the weapons and honestly don't use sidearms much.

For Powers I use Pulse Echo and Sticky bomb.

Ok.. let me explain "Challenging". All the enemies are level 32, and Yellow. The shotgun enemies one shot you, the fire cleaners just barely.. lick you with flame.. you die. A grenade kills you. An SMG from across the map nicks you while behind cover, 2 bars of health gone.

Possible? Maybe... but I doubt it. Unless you are already geared to high heaven and memorize every encounter.

It would cut down on a LOT of the grind. You find an awesome gun that is a type you don't want. Instead of spending 20 more hours looking for the gun with the exact stats you want, you trade for it. One could argue this would cut down on the endgame, but loot farming won't be the end game for very long once incursions and the like start rolling out. As always, if you don't want it, don't use it.

A lot of people talk shit about the story, but I happen to like it. It isn't flawless, and some of the NPCs are dumb, but the actual storyline is good.


For those wanting a single-player experience, The Division can be a completely single player experience if you want it to be. I never once teamed up with anyone. In the single player combat zones you never see other players unless you go into their game or invite them into yours. You'll see them in the "hub" bases, but they are just standing/running around. You don't interact with them at all if you don't wish to do so. I don't.

The Dark Zone is a shared experience, but it is 100% optional. There are no story missions in there other than one where an NPC tells you that the DZ exists, and you can literally walk in/out and check it off your map. I think this entirely optional as well. I never group up there, either. I will attack a group of enemies that other people are attacking, but that's it. I've been shot at once or twice, but if you're smart and are completely defensive if engaged, people aren't likely to mess with you too much.

I'm not saying the game is perfect, i'm just saying it is a lot of fun and can be a 99% single-player driven experience.

I'm nowhere near ready to try Challenging difficulty out, but i'm down for running around in the DZ to rank up. Soloing works, but it is slow going and you risk getting ganked.

FYI, they're going to be patching The Division next week. One of their stated goals is to encourage more PvP in the Dark Zone. Whether you mean to take advantage of that or not, it would be a good idea to get your rank up now before the changes go into effect.

I played completely by myself and enjoyed it. It gets repetitive, but I haven't found a game that hasn't after playing long enough.

It's all about how well geared you are in comparison to the mission you're doing. If you're undergeared, yeah, it can take that and more for bosses. If you're correctly or overgeared you can drop multiple trash enemies with one LMG clip.

I'm using a M1A. I take out pretty much everything with one shot. Elites and named, I run in close and use my shotgun. Seriously, enemies aren't difficult to take out. Flamethrower "Cleaners" are super easy. One shot to the tank, and then on to a new enemy.

The gold weapons have "unique" skins and high stats, but that is as unique as it gets. There are 3-4 types of each gun: Light Machine Gun, Assault Rifle, Marksman Rifle, Shotgun, and Submachine Gun. There are also 2 different types of side arms, Handguns and sawed off shotguns.

Weapons can also have skill boosters which give them enhanced properties like Extra headshot damage, or the last round of the clip does more damage, etc. Purple weapons have 2 skill boosters, gold weapons have 3.

The 1.02 patch is live. The big changes are the Elite boss farming exploit has been fixed, and changes to the DZ to promote far more PvP. Expect to be routinely killed if you go in there solo, but suffer less of a penalty to dying.

So far I'm very happy with the patch.

Every named mob drops a gold item now. Thats every end boss on missions (hard and challenge) and named mobs in the DZ.

Dailies give a little less phoenix creds but there are more of them.

Waiting till this weekend when I have more time to try the new incursion. You can buy 2 pieces of the set gear from the phoenix cred vendor in your base to start you off (they are expensive at 300+ each).

Lube. The DZ isn't designed for solo players.

General tips would be to always avoid crowds, be it groups of players or active level ranges. Basically, run at even the sight of 2 or more people. Always have an exit strategy. Use conceal pulse to keep yourself hidden as much as possible. Your ult should always be the damage reduction one. Even then, the best you can hope to do is kite through some mobs to lose a crowd. Abandon extractions if anyone appears. Wait until the last few seconds to attach your stuff as ropes can be cut now. Don't wait on the point, but just off it. It may be wise to leave a few mobs on the spawn point if you can to act as fodder/early alarm.

I've only hung out in the lower dark zone tiers but so far I can hold my own pretty good, at least against NPCs. I've got my crit% and crit damage increase at about +170-180% each

Gear score is important, but you want to stay just under the cap that forces you up into the next DZ tier until you can amass a high score. I don't remember the breakdowns off-hand, but you should be able to find the information easily enough. I think the first one is <=160.

Mods will increase your score. I don't think you can easily lower your gear score once it's established. I think you're at the low end of your bracket, so you definitely want to gear up to as near the cap as possible. Just don't go over it. I think the next one up is for people with the latest shit.

Soloed the single player campaign. But challenge/raid/incursions/darkzone is just stupid when you empty 2 clips into a guy's unarmored head and he's still running around shooting. It's like they went all out in making such a realistic game and this sort of thing just completely breaks the immersion IMO.

Soloed the single player campaign. But challenge/raid/incursions/darkzone is just stupid when you empty 2 clips into a guy's unarmored head and he's still running around shooting. It's like they went all out in making such a realistic game and this sort of thing just completely breaks the immersion IMO.

The game has gotten a lot better with recent patches. The population has returned to release levels. The DLCs are both good, but The Survival DLC is really where it's at. Very intense gameplay that doesn't offer the best rewards, but is worth it for the challenge alone. If you bought the game and gave up on it a while back, give it another go and see if you like it.

Pop pills and medicine the second you find them. That'll help give you an extra 30-45 minutes beyond the hour the disease normally gives you. I think 2 hours is the cap due to diminishing returns.

Are you console or PC? Now that I managed to extract solo I'd be down for going in as a group.

It has steadily improved since launch. I think the game is in a good place right now, but it is far from perfect. The enemies are still and always will be very spongy. It's just the nature of the game.

Think of it as Destiny without aliens and more things to do at end game. Seems to have tons of end game content now. It also doesn't revolve around loot boxes which is also part of what is drawing me back in. Yes, it has had its problems but I can understand how a game of this type might be tough to get right out the box. They have listened to what players have complained about and continued to develop the base game. They could have just stopped after the contractually obligated year one DLCs but they didn't. Everything I see now says that its vastly improved.

huh, I was reading the site and couldn't see the connection passed "European disaster zone" and then I watched a video and holy shit. Even though they say its Unity 5 it looks HIGHLY like the X-ray engine and a LOT of those models look straight up ripped from STALKER. If the gunplay is anywhere near similar it would be fun to poke around in. X-ray engine/STALKER had the best gun physics/gun play/feel out of any "realistic" shooter I've played.

Seems its been in the works for a bit. watched a few videos of it and it looks pretty good. Something to keep an eye on when/if it gets a full release. I'm not a fan of buying into games at this stage. Thanks for the heads up.

I've got a lot of respect for the developers of The Division. They realized early on they kind of screwed up but instead of putting their heads in the sand and ignoring the playerbase (like Bungie) they reached out to the community for help and formed a committee of players and youtubers. IIRC they flight this group of people to various offices around the world before each of the big releases, starting with 1.4, to give input and feedback.

I still don't care for how spongy the enemies are in the top difficulty tiers though and wish they handled that differently. Currently running a striker build using an urban MDR and The House for weapons.

My money is on them showing Division 2 at this years E3.

So its pretty easy to gear up to be competitive with the current patch. Took me 2-3 hrs of playing to get to World Tier 5 (GS 256+). Now its the gear grind. Gonna try to queue up for some incursions this weekend and see if I can finish any of them.

Best tip I can give you is to keep a lot of distance between you and them. Their 1-hit-kill melee attack is ridiculous.

Maybe it was 4 but it was at least 1 per phase but I think we got 1 double for a phase.

Wish they would change the Underground to allow matchmaking while you're in there. Started a 5 directive, 3 stage op with 2 other people and they both bailed after the first 5 minutes after one of them died multiple times.
