I have a human sniping archer that is a member of Voln that I stopped play because of my frustration with the inability to crit many undead with arrows and being spotted by them regularly. I recently read a post by Droit indicating that GoS was really perfect for rangers. Would I be crazy to switch to GoS at my current level? Is it doable?

Totally doable. Sniping in warcamps rocks.
my ranger switched from col to gos at 50. just remember vine and breeze are your friends

Warcamp orcs seem to be very perceptive as well.

Yeah, orcs and guards are very perceptive. Snipe trolls and giants, and take out the guards first.

Once I mastered GoS with my paladin I gave up warcamps, they are just sort of annoying, mostly because of force on force formulas. He has 25 ranks in MOC and it would still be problematic. I would say you better make sure you have some MOC if you want to switch since you will get caught out at times and without it a warcamp is death on a stick.

It comes back full circle though... In the last month or so, I've had an absolute blast doing warcamps at cap. It may not necessarily be faster/safer XP than bounties, but it's definitely more fun, and it's really enjoyable to get a group going...

It's nice because it isn't a replacement source of exp, it's a supplemental source of exp. If I get a bunch of bounties I have no interest in doing, I can double my chances of a good task by checking with the outpost every 15 minutes too. When I'm sitting around town with a completed gem task and 0 exp in my head, instead of gearing up for a full scatter hunt, I'll just pop out to a warcamp literally 3 rooms from the town gates, run in and kill a warchief and his goons, and fry in a couple minutes. I'd be back on node with a saturated head in no time at all, plus I'd have that completed warchief task to turn in for more saturation once the gem task gets absorbed. So convenient.

I am currently in RR so I may have to move since clerics and healers are a bit scarce. Any thoughts on the best place to GoS hunt from in terms of war camp availability, emergency services and orc/giants/trolls in the landscape?

just looking at this http://gsguide.wikia.com/index.php?title=GoS_Hated_Enemies it looks like the landing is best.

Icemule has a lot of giants and trolls in your level range, and it has a solid population for rescues. All the camps are trolls and giants though, which are significantly harder than orcs.
