View Full Version : 1625 choices
I'm currently in the process of trying to decide what weapon would be better for my Paladin. I've been doing a lot of research and there are a lot of mixed reviews and "don't use this or use that" posts. But, I figured a little community love might help.
Right now I'm using a 5x, sanctified, void flaring, unlocked smart falchion. This'll probably tide me over until I get 1625.
At this point, I'm wondering what would be more effective?
I've potential choices of -
a 6x, handaxe with perm "mech" flares
a 6x, perfect, sanct falchion with T4 ensorcell
or a OHE weapon with VHCW.
I guess my question lies mostly along the lines of, what's most effective? Like I stated, I've read a lot of mixed reviews on plasma flares, some people swear by them, other people don't. I know weighting will negate Guiding Light, but at what point have you guys (if any) found weighting to perform better than 2x plasmas, or vice versa?
I really like the idea of mech flares, 2x guiding light and ensorcell, but again, I'm having a hard time deciding what I'm going to use. I'm about to drop a nice chunk of silvers for whatever weapon I choose and I'd like it to be the most logical choice, as it'll probably serve for most my character's life. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
one thing to remember is when you get 1625 your weapon will automatically become sancted no matter what its properties, so you dont need a specifically sancted weapon to start with.
i used an iasha flamberge for awhile and it was great, then i came across a mcw flamberge with t5 ensorcell and thought that would be even better so i switched. IMO it was good but not necessarily better. Then after that i came across a blessable broadsword, that was for RP reasons the item my character had to use, so i switched to ohe/shield.
At first because i was used to the massive damage from the flamberges, i was getting frustrated by the lack of sheer killing power, but then after coming here for advice i adjusted my hunting style and now with my setup .... mstrikeing/ double plasma flares/ ensorcell flares / broadsword used with a shield bashing/ spiked / plasma flaring / sancted tower shield, i find my killing power to be as good if not better than with the big weapons.
basically there is no right / wrong choice. Pick what you enjoy to hunt with and go with it. everybody is different
good luck

Yeah, I'd actually go for something that isn't already sanctified, since 1625 will do that for you. It may be easier, in fact, to find a good weapon that isn't sanctified, in terms of other nifty things the weapon may have.
Other than that, I'd say go for the type of weapon that you like, that fits with your character's RP, and enjoy... as loxe said, there's really no right/wrong choice.

Personally I'd go for a perfect 6x+ weapon...7x preferred, vanilla weapon and go from there unless you can get something with uncommon flares. The guiding light flares from 1625 are too good to pass up, and the bonus from using a perfect weapon adds to that. Also, the perfect weapons allow for an easy ensorcell...so if you have the cash, get the weapon, have it ensorcelled then bond with 1625. To ensorcell afterwards you'll need to drop the bond unfortunately.
Vanilla meaning no flares or weighting

If that handaxe's mechanical flare is a script, I believe you'll be able to get the plasma flares in addition to the sanct. The other two would get either flares or a sanct.

Just a note, I posted something on the officials related to smart weapons and removing their flaring capabilities to allow consecrate flares, because frankly the void flares on the smart weapons are pretty meh, whereas the scripts are really fricken cool. Unfortunately removal of the void flares, constitutes a removal of the scripts themselves as well. So if you were looking for this as an option by chance it wouldn't be a good choice.

Damn, that was another thing I was going to look into at a later time. I really like the scripts for the smart weapons but like you state, the void flares are pretty lacking. A shame we can't get those removed.

Yeah, I had a morning star smart weapon that I had my sights on for further enchanting, ensorcellment and bonding. The GM's basically said lol@you jerkface

There are cold flares at least as well. I want to say lightning too? They aren't all void.

I'm using a 6x T4 ensorcelled flamberge based weapon and love it. The double plasma flares plus ensorcell flares are just ridiculous.
Here's a recent example actually:
You swing a crimson ora hilted vaalorn reaver at a phantasma!
AS: +370 vs DS: +162 with AvD: +48 + d100 roll: +86 = +342
... and hit for 196 points of damage!
Massive strike to the chest crashes through the phantasma's back in a cloud of vapor.
Slowly, the phantasma reforms its torso.
You feel the unnatural surge of necrotic power wane away.
** Your hilted vaalorn reaver pulses with a burst of plasma energy! **
... 35 points of damage!
Left arm ripped in half at the elbow!
The fallen arm evaporates as a new one materializes.
** Your hilted vaalorn reaver sprays with a burst of plasma energy! **
... 30 points of damage!
Attack whistles right through the lower back encountering little resistance!
You hear a sound like a weeping child as a white glow separates itself from the phantasma's body as it rises, disappearing into the heavens.
The phantasma shrieks in terror for an instant, then begins to rapidly dissipate!
The brilliant luminescence fades from around a phantasma.
The deep blue glow leaves a phantasma.
The silvery luminescence fades from around a phantasma.
Like the others have said though, there's no real right or wrong choice, it's all up to your preferred play style and vision for your character.

I'll jump on this train...which weapon would you choose?
1) 8x perfect greatsword, MCW, T5, blink, rot flares?
Or
2) 10x claidhmore?

The greatsword if it had a different script than blink or rot, otherwise the claid.

Enchant greatsword to 10x... and use that with 1614 in it.
