View Full Version : Returning 47 rogue, starting to question my fixskill choice

I'm returning after a couple year break to my rogue and decided to fixskill to an archer sniper in robes. It was smooth sailing for a bit, I was hunting pyrothags (level 58) since level 46 with little trouble. But I've hit a stretch where I've been dying consistantly. Is it just a run of bad luck or should I start wearing some armor?

Make sure you're above the AS of anything you face and you should be fine.

What is killing you?

Sand Devils get me every time. Skayls. Basically everything but pyrothags!

I never tried Sand Devils myself. Glancing at gswiki, it looks like hunting tactics might help more than anything else. They are 10 levels below Pyrothags though, so why not just skip hunting them.

I did hunt Skayls for a bit, but I don't remember them being difficult. If your DS isn't up to par, make sure you always have enough stamina to Vanish. I can imagine a light tap can still hurt in robes. I imagine you are, but at least get 4x robes and a 4x bow to help your DS. If you are ever finding yourself prone, I highly recommend getting Combat Mobility as well.

Otherwise, your skills look fine to me. I've never tried with robes, but I don't see any reason your training path can't work.

Sand devils tend to have shields and as an archer, I'd suggest you skip them.

Sorry to bump a dead thread but... 50 ranks of armor use for robes? Is that right?

probably for the ranks in armor stealth

which bears to question....are all the TP's worth it solely for the stealth? or would they be better placed directly into stealthy skills/CMANs?

Turns out I was wearing 0x robes, whoops. Been dying way less since.

Armored stealth helps being pulled from hiding and also counts towards redux.

With fixskill coming up I'm thinking about flipping the script; ditch robes and stealth, switch to MBP.

New training at level 56 would look like this:

80 ranks Armor
2x Ranged
109 ranks CM (Wspec 1, surge, cmobility, cunning defense, combat toughness)
10 ranks MOC
2x Ambush
104 ranks PF
3x Dodging
2x Perception

Anyone have thoughts on how this might work?

If I knew more about ranged I could help. But since I don't I can't :(

Tremendous. I was more concerned with cman choices than anything. I'm not trilled with training in combat toughness, for example, but figure expta HP will help since I'll be in the open.

Oh man, I've completely overlooked Striking Asp Stance until now. Looks like it was just released a month ago. I'll definitely try that over combat toughness.

Talkin' to myself, but I ended up with this:

84 ranks Armor (stopping for a bit when I get to 90, rank 3 evasion)
2x Ranged
89 ranks CM (surge, cmobility, cunning defense, striking asp)
25 ranks MOC
2x Ambush
100 ranks PF
3x Dodging
3x Perception
35 Climbing
20 Swimming

Been pretty fun so far, 3 second RT with surge running, with plenty of 1 second shots thrown in with qstrike/striking asp.

Thank you for this thread, as I am about to switch to ranged from sword/board. I am curious what your experience was with sniping. It appears that it wasn't that great from the skill update, but I don't want to assume. Has it been better in the open than sniping?

Also, what are you trained in for lockpicking/disarming? While I am over 20 levels below this build, I'm not even close to the training ratios that you have on your build.

ehh... I would have asked society... for an Archer, that's pretty CMAN heavy for just redux/abilities. CMAN does nothing for Ranged AS, I'd have recommended not going beyond 1x, and likely dedicating additional points towards more PF or something.

Sniping was definitely a viable path, I think I just went a little too extreme with the robes. Vanish was essential because I literally could not get hit or I'd be done for.

Open Archer has definitely been easier. I can shoot faster and between MBP and redux I can take a hit now. For example, I didn't even attempt bandit tasks with my last build and can tear through them with ease now.

Didn't mention lock picking or disarm because I haven't trained in them. I was trying to build the best hunter possible.

AS hasn't really been a problem, but I'm definitely going to hold at 89 ranks in CM until I can get fully 2x in PF.

Thanks. I was afraid of that, as I'm definitely interested in locksmithing. Glad it is all working for you now!
