I'm looking to build a gaming computer nothing TOO over the top but something a tad over average

I'm looking to run an athlon 64

Anyone know the difference between a Sempronand a Barton? (for athlon xps)

Also, anyone recommend a good motherboard that supports dual channel DDR that'll run well with an athlon 64 chip

I still haven't decided what kind of video card to get.

Gaming computer? Get the top of the line card right now, which is probably one of the GeForce6800 versions.

If you want an Athlon 64, Bartons and Semprons don't even come into play as they are older 32-bit chips. However, if you need an explaination, think of Semprons as upgraded Durons made to replace the XP line as the 64 bit chips take over. The Barton is a version of the XP line of chips.

You can't go wrong with ASUS or Abit motherboards, from my experience.

i would agree and say asus mobo and the geforce 6800 gt overclocked, best bang for the buck, best buy sold em for 379 for awhile may still do....

I agree with Ivex, Asus MBs are good buys, very simple to set up and they usually have a good feature set.

Yeah, I was reading just yesterday about the geforce 6xxx series.

They were reviewing a 6600 and overclocked it to the point where it was near what the 6800gt was.

And the 6600 is less then $150.

What are you wanting to spend for the total system?

Go to Best Buy and ask them which one is the best gaming computer and buy it?

Then buy a mini-van, pull your waist band up to your arm pits, wear funny looking golfer's pants, and bitch about the government.

Ooops ... Sorry PB.
