Anyone else having trouble getting Lich to function after installing KB3124263? I can get Stormfront to run just fine using the Play.net website, but when launching through lich.rbw, it will never connect.

I skipped 3124263 and am on 314266. Try that version. Also, windows likes to reset a lot of shit on every update. So cortana, firewalls, etc, could be turned back on.

I still can't get Lich to load on my Windows 10 machine. the login window for lich loads just fine, but I cannot link to SGE (which I did login, and the game loaded just fine via the entry)
-uninstalled/ reinstalled multiple times
-on admin user
-closed out of anti virus software via services
-turned off windows firewall
-turned off smartscreen
-windows is up to date
I've been trying to get lich to run properly on this laptop for several months now on and off. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe anything is blocking the software but that is all I could think of to try.

I had the same issue with the SGE on the start shortcut bar whatever on the right side...But for some reason, placing it on my desktop allowed it to work.
I think it's an issue with not running it as an admin in Win10.
If I click on the SGE icon in my toolbar on the right, I get the same error...But using it on my desktop, works just fine.
Not sure if it's an installation problem or what honestly

What happens if you try to log in using the Lich game entry?

Thanks for the reply. I moved it to the desktop and the entry loads just fine, it just won't pair with Lich. So I'm receiving a timeout error because it's not connected from what I can tell.
It's odd, because I just did a re-install this morning and the entry seemed to load just fine and then when I reboot I get that error if I attempt to load from the hidden icons on the lower right.
That's why I originally thought maybe something was blocking it. I didnt get those error messages until later.

If I double click the lich icon it will not load. I have to right click and designate that it be opened with ruby interpreter.
Once it opens I put all my login info in and attempt to select the SGE launch chain. But when I select the Link to SGE nothing happens. I've loaded it manually thinking maybe it wouldnt auto- load but that still doesn't help if I logon with the entry. I'm just assuming this is where the disconnect is.
The same thing appears to happen if I select the website option.
Maybe I did something totally dumb. No idea.

If you put all your info into the Lich window, then SGE is not involed and doesn't need to be linked. You just put in your user id and password, click connect, highlight a character, select a frontend, check the box to save the info or not, and click play.
On the other hand if you want to use the SGE, you would open the Lich window, click on the Link tab, click the Link to SGE button, and close the window. Then any time after that that you log in with the SGE, it should start Lich.
Either you're trying to do a mixture of these two methods, or more explaining is needed.

As for having to right click and select the Ruby interpreter, you need to reinstall Ruby and check the checkbox in the installer that says "Associate .rb and .rbw files with this Ruby installation".

If I try to login with just the lich window, with my user ID and PW that's the error I receive.

That can probably be fixed by setting Ruby to run as admin. I don't recommend that at all, because then your scripts will be running as admin. If you want to do it anyway, find c:\ruby200\bin\rubyw.exe in your file manager, right click on it, select properties, compatibility, run as admin. Or something like that anyway.
Other things to try would be the same exact thing you just did. Lich will switch to a different method to try to start the Simu launcher when one of them fails. It will probably also fail.. because.. you know.. Windows.
Also, you can try setting the Simutronics Launcher to always run as admin. It's named Launcher.exe and is probably somewhere in Program Files.
Or you can try screwing around with UAC settings. As far as I can tell that's what is causing the problem, but even so, changing the settings doesn't seem to help.
Or you can try putting the Simutronics Launcher into compatibility mode for Win7 or XP or whatever.

You are the best!! Changing the compatibility/admin settings worked! Thanks Tillmen!
