Photo 1 of 60 from Character Portraits Pt. 4

You see First Legionnaire Esana Lartuen-Ilynov Vaalor. She appears to be an Elf. She is average height and appears to be in the spring of life. She has silver-flecked mismatched ice blue and pear green eyes and golden brown skin. She has elbow-length, silky silver hair pulled back into a chignon and held by a silvery eahnor filigree ornament dangling strands of rose-cut diamond beads, leaving loose tendrils to frame her face. She has a pair of small pointed ears and perfectly sculpted cheekbones, emphasizing a noble appearance.

Firefly or 3DL? You should try it in Iray. You'd be amazed at the difference in lighting so long as you've got a decent set of HDRs.

Actually, nevermind, I guess this could already be Iray if you've got the focal length set just before the face. Still curious though as to which you used.

I used Iray. Created the two toned eyes in PS and imported them via the surfaces tab. The hair prop is new and I like how it renders. Lots of presets for it so less hassle. The background and character are layered in PS with gaussian blur added via PS instead of with the internal camera this time. I used Dramatica Iray lighting and futzed about to get the effects I wanted. Changed some default settings then rendered. I didn't render as long as I should have so I did some smoothing and brightening via PS.

Haha, yeah that's my bad. I took a second look at the gloss on the lips and realized it was probably Iray with fiddled fstop and focal length. It looks good. I recognize the hair. Is it Cailin Hair by chance? Or Katharina? And I agree on the postwork for the environs in a lot of cases. The lighting is slightly more accurate rendering the dome, but more often than not I find I like the lighting on rotation slightly more than what I'd prefer the dome background to look like, so I end up hiding the dome, just using it for lighting, and then creating the background in post.

    This hair: http://www.daz3d.com/super-sleeky-ha...irblending-2-0
I got the OOT blend as well for it.

And I really like these lights right out of the box: http://www.daz3d.com/dramatica-iray-lights-and-settings

It's really too bad I don't have the patience to let the progressive rendering go longer. The ones I like best are usually the ones I leave rendering over night while I sleep.

Ooh that explains it. Outoftouch did Cailin hair too. That's why I recognized the texture. I have a few Iray lighting packs (not that one, but similar) that I've tried through Daz. They look good as is, but I like to really fiddle with the lighting settings, and Daz 4.9 is missing a crucial freaking element for fiddling with Iray lighting - You can't change the shadow dynamics yet, but it's the only way to change lighting temperature outside of the HDR unless you want to roll the dice with saturation in the environment settings. If you make the light heavy enough to alter the temperature, you end up with these ugly flat black shadows cast in the background. It's a feature built into Iray but Daz hasn't got settings for it yet. I've got my fingers crossed for 5.0 to have it, but until then, I export everything into Max or Lightwave for my final renders. At any rate, good work.

I've never used Max or Lightwave. Only used Poser and DS. I'm flirting with the idea of possibly buying Octane but I want to get a better computer before I try new programs.
