Kittai the Ranger
If you look on a modern bow, you'll see that the only way to place the arrow is the way opposite to the one depicted on this picture. It's the most stable way to place and draw back an arrow. Pk is right that there are civilizations that shot it the other way for quick release, and if the bow is simple enough there should be nothing stopping a person from firing it in this way.
So, on a "modern" bow you draw the arrow with your right hand and place it through the space between the string and bow body and then line it up against the body of the bow to begin aiming? That sounds a little cumbersome and perhaps doableif you're shooting at a target, but sounds like it would be faster, as you say, to line it up as pictured if you're going for speed.
I'm happy for you, and I'mma let you finish, but I'm the greatest bow of all times... Of all times!
On a "modern" bow with right hand/right eye dominance, you just lower the bow between shots and nock an arrow with your dominant right hand. The arrow here should, if it's following common practice, be on the other side. When pulled back with the right hand, some outward pressure toward the right is created, which presses the arrow lightly into the arrow rest. If it were on the right side, it'd be tempted to pop out away from the bow. Keeping the arrow of the left side of the bow also lines it up better for right eye dominance. So, no one right now shoots like this, but historically I'm sure someone has.
Love the hair, btw!

Interesting discussion and I learned some stuff. Redid her with a slightly different camera angle (and hair...I never pass up a chance to change hairstyles) as well as fixing the arrow. Posting it in a moment. Thanks for all the input.
Also, lol @ Whirlin
